This project seeks to unify hip hop practitioners in a co-production of a sensitization album which aims at calling on all Hip Hop practitioners to form a synergy that can enable them better address the problems and pitfalls impeding the hip hop movement from gaining recognition in Cameroon, and we further set some milestones to develop the notion in our country.
Introduction of hip hop concept
Hip Hop and Rap music are popularly seen as examples of American culture diffused worldwide. It is one of the most spread forms of popular music, easily accessible and oral form of expression which involves ideologies, attitudes and manners, shaping a culture with its own codes and languages.
Its integration in Africa was pioneered by Cote d’Ivoire (around 1980), Senegal (1982), Tanzania, South Africa and Guinea (1980s), Gabon (around 1985) or Nigeria (around 1987), mean while, some of the countries in Africa are still left behind with Cameroon as a typical example. The hip hop sceneof Cameroon is up and includes pioneer artistslike "Manhitoo"and "Negrissim"who broke new ground in the early 90's and new stars likeKoppo and Bantou Pousie. All of which are receiving international acclaim as we speak. The local adaptation of Cameroon to this culture is still moving at a snail speed because of the following.
Lack of sponsors
Lack of infrastructure
Information and resources sharing amongst artists and producers
Lack of marketing facilities
